Know / Do / Be Bridge Framework
Chapter 3
As teachers, our goal is to make sure our students understand what is important for them to know and be able to do.The framework consist of two triangles and one rectangle. One triangle is the Know and includes facts, topics, and concepts. It is usually the easiest to measure. The other triangle, the Do, includes higher order skills from Bloom's taxonomy. The rectangle is the Be and includes attitudes, beliefs, and actions that we expect students to demonstrate, for example, character education. The Be is the most controversial. Some educators believe that it is not up to the school to teach values. The Be connects the two triangles. So what exactly does this framework mean? Some may still ask the question what do we want our students to know, do, and be? Therefore, building the know / do / be bridge can and will help us to integrate curriculum.
